Rewardful and Tolt are the two most similarly priced tools in the SaaS affiliate-tracking space, both landing in the $49-99/month range at their first two tiers. The difference isn’t features so much as what happens once real money starts moving through the platform: Tolt lets you grow further before hitting a price-tier ceiling, but takes a cut once payouts are automated; Rewardful never charges that cut, at any tier.

The short version: at $49/month, Tolt’s Basic caps affiliate revenue at $10,000/month versus Rewardful Starter’s $7,500/month, a third more headroom for the same price. At $99/month, the gap holds: Tolt Growth caps at $20,000/month against Rewardful Growth’s $15,000/month. But Tolt’s Growth tier and above charge a 2% fee on automated payouts, something Rewardful never charges regardless of tier or volume.

Rewardful: No Payout Cut at Any Tier, Stripe or Paddle Only

Rewardful’s structure is flat and predictable: no percentage cut of affiliate payouts at Starter, Growth, or Enterprise, regardless of how much revenue flows through the program. The one exception is optional: its Managed Payouts service, which pays affiliates on your behalf, charges a 3% processing fee (checked September 24, 2026), so paying affiliates yourself through PayPal or Wise keeps the cost at zero. Starter ($49/month) covers up to $7,500/month in affiliate-driven revenue with unlimited affiliates but only one campaign; Growth ($99/month) removes the campaign limit and adds the branded affiliate portal, custom domain, and private campaigns, capping at $15,000/month. Enterprise ($149+/month) mainly adds phone support and one-click PayPal payouts above that ceiling. The hard constraint is billing platform support: Stripe or Paddle, full stop, confirmed directly on Rewardful’s own FAQ.

  • Who should NOT start on Rewardful Starter: anyone who needs more than one campaign or a branded portal from day one; both require jumping to Growth.
  • Who it’s right for: a Stripe- or Paddle-billed program that wants to know its costs will never include a percentage cut, regardless of how large the affiliate channel grows.

Tolt: Higher Ceilings and Chargebee Support, But a Fee Once You Automate

Tolt’s Basic tier ($69/month) starts at a higher price than Rewardful’s Starter but covers a third more revenue ($10,000/month) and includes a branded portal from day one, albeit with Tolt’s own “powered by” mark still showing and payouts handled manually rather than automatically. Growth ($99/month, $20,000/month cap) adds automated payouts through PayPal, Wise, bank transfer, crypto, or wire, and removes the campaign limit, but that automation comes with a 2% processing fee. Pro ($199/month, $50,000/month cap) removes the “powered by” branding at the same 2% fee. Tolt’s own marketing also lists Chargebee support alongside Stripe and Paddle, which matters directly if Chargebee is your billing platform, since Rewardful can’t serve that setup at any price.

  • Who should NOT use Tolt if avoiding fees matters most: any program planning to rely on automated payouts at high volume, since the 2% fee on Growth and Pro can outweigh the higher revenue ceiling once payout amounts get large.
  • Who it’s right for: a program billing through Chargebee specifically, or one that expects to outgrow Rewardful’s revenue caps at a comparable price and is fine paying a percentage on automated payouts in exchange.

The Ceiling-vs-Fee Tradeoff Is the Whole Decision

Once you set the sticker prices side by side, this comparison reduces to one real question: would you rather have more headroom before your revenue outgrows the tier, or guaranteed zero percentage fees regardless of volume? Tolt wins the first question at every price point it’s compared at, including against FirstPromoter and Reditus elsewhere in this space; see our Tolt vs. FirstPromoter comparison for how that plays out against a third tool with the same tradeoff shape, and our Rewardful vs. FirstPromoter comparison for the one matchup where the two tools charge identical prices. Rewardful wins the second question outright, since it takes no cut of payouts you send yourself at any tier or volume, with its 3% Managed Payouts service strictly optional.

If Neither Fits: Reditus’s Marketplace Is a Different Bet

Both Rewardful and Tolt assume you already know how to recruit affiliates and just need tracking and payouts. If finding affiliates, not tracking them, is the actual bottleneck, Reditus takes a different approach: its Scale Up plan ($399/month, annual only, 12-month commitment) adds a marketplace of 27,000+ B2B SaaS affiliates who can discover and apply to your program. That’s a much higher price and a real commitment, so it only makes sense if affiliate discovery specifically is what’s missing. Our Reditus vs. Rewardful comparison covers that tradeoff in more depth, and our full affiliate software roundup covers all four tools side by side.

Who Should NOT Pay for Either One Yet

If your affiliate program has no live affiliates and no revenue running through it yet, both tools are billing you to track nothing. Both offer 14-day free trials, long enough to sign up a handful of affiliates manually with unique coupon codes in your existing billing tool and confirm the channel produces real referrals before paying for either platform.

FAQ

Is Rewardful or Tolt cheaper? Rewardful’s entry tier is $20/month less than Tolt’s ($49 vs. $69), but Tolt’s entry tier covers a third more revenue. Once you’re on Tolt’s Growth tier or above, its 2% payout fee can add real cost at high volume that Rewardful doesn’t charge unless you opt into its 3% Managed Payouts service.

Which one has a higher revenue ceiling for the same price? Tolt, at every comparable tier: $10,000/month vs. $7,500/month at the entry price, and $20,000/month vs. $15,000/month at $99/month.

Does either charge a percentage fee on payouts? Rewardful doesn’t on payouts you send yourself, at any tier; its optional Managed Payouts service charges 3%. Tolt doesn’t either on its Basic tier, but Basic only supports manual payouts; automated payouts (Growth and up) carry a 2% fee.

What if I bill through Chargebee? Tolt’s marketing lists Chargebee support alongside Stripe and Paddle. Rewardful supports Stripe or Paddle only, with no other option at any tier, confirmed on its own FAQ.

I have zero affiliates right now. Where do I start? Neither platform’s paid tiers make sense yet. Use the 14-day free trial on either one, or manual coupon codes in your existing billing tool, to sign up a handful of affiliates and confirm the channel produces referrals before committing to a monthly fee.

Bottom Line

  • Want zero payout fees regardless of how large the program grows: Rewardful, paying affiliates yourself rather than through its optional 3% Managed Payouts, and accepting its lower revenue ceiling at each price tier.
  • Expect to outgrow Rewardful’s caps quickly, or bill through Chargebee: Tolt, budgeting for its 2% fee once you’re using automated payouts.
  • The actual bottleneck is finding affiliates, not tracking them: look at Reditus’s marketplace tier instead.
  • No live affiliates yet: don’t pay for either. Validate the channel manually first, then compare tiers against actual referral volume and payout size.

Whichever one you pick, the subscription and any payout fees are a real expense line that belongs in your books alongside affiliate commissions. See our FreshBooks vs Wave vs Zoho Invoice comparison if you’re deciding what to track it in.
