About

The Subscription Guide is written by Taku S. I also writeThe Nihon Spirits Guideand The Nihon Craft Guide, for the same kind of reader: someone who wants a straight answer before spending money, rather than a sales page dressed up as a review.

This site exists because subscriptions are now bought individually and paid for collectively. Nobody decides to spend $200 a month on recurring services; they decide fourteen separate times to spend $14, and the total only becomes visible on a bank statement. Meanwhile the comparisons available are fragmented — one site covers business software, another covers snack boxes, another covers streaming — and none of them treat the subscription bill as a single thing.

So this site covers all of it: software, devices that charge a monthly fee on top of the hardware, subscription boxes, learning apps, privacy tools, streaming, and the cross-cutting question of which ones to keep.

What you should know about how this is written

We don't run hands-on tests, and we don't pretend to. Every guide is built from the providers' own published information plus what real users report in public reviews, and each article states when its figures were last checked. The full explanation — including how we rank, and why commission never changes the order — is on thehow we compare page. Read that before you trust anything here.
