Search “Bokksu UK” or “Sakuraco UK shipping” and you’ll find plenty of reviewers who’ve received a box in Britain — but almost none of them tell you what happened at customs, because for a lot of shipments, nothing does. The UK Rule Nobody’s Marketing Page Mentions

Since 2021, UK law has treated low-value parcels differently depending on their declared value, per GOV.UK’s own guidance:

TokyoTreat and Sakuraco’s shared help center (both brands are run by parent company ICHIGO Inc.) has a dedicated article on subscription pricing, last updated by TokyoTreat’s own support team, stating that for subscribers in the UK and EU, shipping is $14.99/box and UK Tax and Duties are $3.00/box (EU: $7.00/box), and that “these tax and duties will be collected upfront to ensure smooth customs processing and avoid unexpected fees upon delivery.” A separate VAT FAQ on the same help center confirms the underlying mechanism: for one-off purchases they use the EU/UK’s official low-value import VAT scheme (IOSS-style prepayment) so “there won’t be any unexpected fees when your package arrives.”

The wrinkle: that same pricing-update article also lists new base subscription prices ($39.99/mo down to $29.99/mo for 12-month plans) that don’t match what’s actually shown on Sakuraco’s live pricing page today ($37.50/mo down to $32.50/mo — the same figures used in our Bokksu vs Sakuraco and Sakuraco vs TokyoTreat comparisons, reconfirmed live on August 23, 2026). We can’t reconcile that discrepancy from outside the company, so we’re not repeating the new base-price figures as current fact — but the UK-specific shipping and duty commitment is a separate, clearly dated policy statement, and we have no reason to doubt it’s the one currently in effect.

Bokksu: No UK-Specific Number, and an Ambiguous General Policy

Bokksu’s $3 fee — the one already covered in our Bokksu vs Sakuraco comparison — is listed on Bokksu’s own site as a line item titled “US Customs Import Duty.” It’s specific to the US, not a general international surcharge. For shipments elsewhere, Bokksu’s help content states that customs charges, duties, and taxes are “determined by your local government,” that Bokksu isn’t responsible for them, and that the recipient pays them. Separately, one support answer references resolving cases where a customer has “already paid VAT to Bokksu” — which implies VAT prepayment happens in at least some circumstances — but nowhere in Bokksu’s publicly available help content did we find a UK-specific fee amount or an explicit statement that UK orders get the same upfront treatment TokyoTreat and Sakuraco describe in writing.

That’s not proof Bokksu handles UK orders badly — plenty of low-value parcels clear without a courier ever generating a Fee to Pay card. It’s a documentation gap: one company tells you, in a dated support article, exactly what it collects and why; the other doesn’t publish an equivalent UK answer at all.

This doesn’t reverse the conclusion of our Bokksu vs Sakuraco comparison, which was about US total cost — Bokksu came out cheaper there once the $3 US fee was included. This is a different question: which company’s own paperwork tells a UK reader what to expect, versus which one leaves that answer to whichever courier happens to handle the parcel.

Who Should NOT Worry About Any of This

If you’re comfortable paying a fee if and when a courier asks for one — and you’d rather not add $17.99/box to every renewal on the chance it never gets collected — Bokksu’s undocumented approach isn’t a dealbreaker, just an unknown. Low-value parcels don’t get stopped at the UK border every time, and plenty of UK Bokksu subscribers report normal delivery with no additional charge. If you want certainty over your monthly bill rather than a possible average saving, the calculus flips: pay the stated $17.99/box with Sakuraco or TokyoTreat and never think about it again.
