Check the product title before you buy. "Core Features, No Ongoing Cost" works without a plan. "Paid Plan Required to Activate" doesn't turn on until you subscribe.

Checked against Furbo’s plans and pricing page, its Furbo Nanny FAQ, and the current Amazon.com listings on October 6, 2026. A 2-year Nanny plan is also available at $7.49 or $9.37 a month.

Two Versions of the Same Camera

This is what confuses most buyers. On Amazon, the Furbo 360° Dog Camera and the Furbo Mini each come in two listings that look almost identical:

  • “Core Features, No Ongoing Cost”: the standard camera. Furbo’s help center says the fundamental features “will ALWAYS remain free for the Standalone model”: barking and meowing alerts, treat tossing, and live view, plus talking to your pet.
  • “Paid Plan Required to Activate”: the same hardware at a much lower price, but locked. Amazon’s listing says “no features are available before activation,” and activation requires a Furbo Nanny plan.

The Paid Plan version gives you two ways to activate, per its Amazon listing: a yearly plan at $6.99 a month with the activation fee waived, or a monthly plan with a $29.97 activation fee that includes the first 3 months, then $9.99 a month. Furbo’s FAQ says these subscription-required bundles can be canceled “anytime after 3 months,” and the Amazon listing adds: “If you cancel, core features remain.”

The Math: The Locked Version Can Be Cheaper

When we checked, the prices on Amazon were:

CameraNo Ongoing Cost versionPaid Plan Required version
Furbo 360° Dog Camera~$184~$72
Furbo Mini~$89~$25

Take the Furbo 360°. Buy the Paid Plan Required version for $72, activate it with the monthly option ($29.97, covering 3 months of Furbo Nanny), and cancel after those 3 months. That’s about $102 in total, and per the listing you keep live view, two-way audio, and treat tossing afterward. The No Ongoing Cost version costs $184 for the same core features. The same approach on the Mini comes to about $55 against $89.

Two cautions. Amazon prices on both versions change often, so redo the math with the prices you see. And you have to remember to cancel; if you don’t, the monthly plan keeps billing at $9.99. If you’d rather not deal with a subscription at all, the No Ongoing Cost version is the simpler buy.

What Furbo Nanny Adds

If you keep a plan, Furbo Nanny is mostly about recorded video and smarter alerts. According to Furbo’s FAQ:

  • Standard ($9.99/mo): 3 days of video history, pet emergency alerts (seizure), home security alerts for people and CO or smoke alarms, Calm My Pet, Health Checker and Vet Report, and Pet ID to tell your pets apart
  • Premium ($12.49/mo): everything in Standard with 7 days of video history

Yearly billing drops those to $7.99 and $9.99 a month. Each additional camera adds $2 a month, up to 10 cameras.

Who Should NOT Buy the Paid Plan Required Version

If you know you’ll never want video history or smart alerts, or you tend to forget to cancel subscriptions, skip the locked version. It doesn’t work at all until you pay for a plan, and the savings only hold if you cancel on time. Furbo’s FAQ also notes that the 14-day free trial and 99-cent offer don’t apply to these bundles, so you can’t try Nanny for free first.

FAQ

Does Furbo require a subscription? Not the standard version. The “Core Features, No Ongoing Cost” Furbo keeps live view, two-way audio, treat tossing, and barking alerts free. The “Paid Plan Required to Activate” version needs a Furbo Nanny plan before it works at all.

How much is the Furbo subscription? Furbo Nanny Standard is $9.99 a month or $7.99 a month billed yearly. Premium is $12.49 a month or $9.99 a month billed yearly. Each extra camera adds $2 a month.

What happens if I cancel Furbo Nanny? On the standard camera, you keep the free core features. On the Paid Plan Required version, Amazon’s listing says core features remain after you cancel, and Furbo’s FAQ says those bundles can be canceled anytime after 3 months.

Does Furbo record video without a subscription? No. Video history (3 or 7 days) is part of Furbo Nanny. Without a plan, you get live view and alerts but no recordings.

Is there a free trial of Furbo Nanny? Yes, for the standard cameras. Furbo’s FAQ says the 14-day free trial isn’t available on the Paid Plan Required bundles.

Bottom Line

  • You want the basics with no subscription: buy the “Core Features, No Ongoing Cost” Furbo.
  • You want to try Furbo Nanny for a few months: the Paid Plan Required version plus 3 months of Nanny can cost less in total, as long as you cancel on time.
  • You want recorded video: budget $7.99 to $12.49 a month for Furbo Nanny on either version.
